We Believe
San Diego Teacher Residency (SDTR) prepares teachers to educate for justice and deeper learning. We believe that all children deserve a space where they can bring their full selves and develop as curious, critical, and creative humans. Public school classrooms have enormous potential to become such spaces — and SDTR is part of the movement to make the transformation happen, one new teacher at a time.
Our Program
As an SDTR resident, you will earn a California teaching credential and a Master’s in Teaching & Learning. In year 1 you will take courses with your cohort and spend four days a week student-teaching alongside a skilled mentor at one of High Tech High’s 16 K-12 schools. In year 2 you will extend your learning, completing your degree while fully employed. First-year residents receive an $8,000 stipend in addition to federal aid.

Our Team
SDTR‘s faculty and staff are teachers to the core. We have deep experience working with young people as well as adult learners, and we always strive to live the values that we teach.
Our Students
Embracing the diversity of San Diego
Children deserve to see themselves reflected in their mentors. Still, an asymmetrical reality persists: while more than 70% of San Diego County’s students identify as people of color, more than 62% of its teachers identify as white. SDTR is working to change the equation. To date, almost two-thirds of SDTR residents and alumni identify as people of color.
